FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Virtuoso Education Consulting CEO to Present at IAASE Conference

Springfield, Illinois (Feb. 26, 2013)

Founder and CEO of Virtuoso Education Consulting LLC, Renae Azziz Ed.S., NCSP, will present at the 14th Annual Winter Conference of the Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education held February 26 and 27 in Springfield.  Azziz's presentation is titled, "PBIS is Great, but Cultural Responsive PBIS is Best for Ultimately Resolving Significant Disproportionality." Otherwise known as "positive behavioral interventions and supports," PBIS is used by Azziz and her Virtuoso team who work with school administrators and educators to create a strategic school-wide plan to ensure a school gets solutions and sees results in solving cultural or racial disproportionality issues that often arise with certain discipline practices.

According to a 2010 professional research summary from Duke University, school systems that incorporate positive, consistent, collaboratively regulated, and culturally sensitive school-wide practices are much more likely to have lower rates of suspension than schools without such practices.  Virtuoso often uses its own high-performance criterion as well as federal, state, or district level benchmarks to measure results and provide complete evaluations. The school-wide training, rigorous instruction, and on-site evaluations are meant to help students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instructional and behavioral practices and interventions possible, but within a culturally sensitive framework.  Azziz has seen dozens of school systems in fragile territory with federal mandates apply her recommended culturally responsive positive behavior interventions and supports with remarkable success.
